Excel Tools For Contractors

Excel is one of the primary tools used by Project Estimators, Accountants and Owners for a variety of tasks.

Excel is a very powerful tool, capable of automatically linking to your accounting and estimating databases, automating many routine functions and streamlining field operations.

Many people don't fully utilize the capabilities and essentially use one of the most powerful business tools in the World as a glorified columnar take-off sheet.

What We Can Do

We are not a general Excel consultant. Our focus is on the processes that make your business run efficiently and for certain applications we utilize Excel to integrate your business processes.

  • Automated Link To Accounting Information
  • Customized "What-If" Projection Reports
  • Schedule Analysis Tools
  • Daily Extra Work Report (DEWR) Automation
  • Custom "Quick Estimate" Spreadsheets

There are many more applications where we have integrated Excel with ForeFront, QuickBooks, AccuBid, material pricing databases, built custom forms to meet customer requirements, etc.

Excel Resources

The websites and three books shown on this page are the only things I've ever used to solve 99% of all my Excel integration problems.

  • Excel Visually is great for those who are trying to learn the basics, workbooks, worksheets, formatting, etc.  I'd recommend one of these on anyone's shelf who uses Excel.
  • Excel Formulas is a fantastic collection of well-organized information that you can thumb through to find just that formula you need to help you out.  It's a great reference book and should be on anyone's shelf who gets into more advanced formulas than +/-*.
  • Excel Bible is for when you are pushing Excel's limits or if you just want it as a reference to help you find out what the limits are.
  • Websites:  Both ExcelTip and Mr. Excel are excellent sites for finding information you need.  In the last couple of years I've found the solutions for a variety of complicated Excel problems on
  • Excel Templates:  Templates to help you manage your business more effectively.  Don't spend hours creating something from scratch when you can start with these templates.
