Approach
The process used to solve a problem is just as important as the results achieved. If the approach used does not fit with the organization's culture the damage caused by the process may offset or completely undo any positive benefit. This page is designed to provide some insight into how I approach a problem whether it's a turnaround situation or implementing a new process.
- Entire System: All elements of an organization are tied together. Rarely is a problem completely isolated. Most of the time the failure is in a completely separate area and it has only manifested itself in something like a bad project or poor employee morale. I do not believe in Band-Aids for problems. I want to work with your organization to solve the immediate problem and all the root causes.
- Hands On: I've worked very hard to attain a broad base of skills and enjoy using them. I am not a hands-off manager or consultant. I believe in rolling up my sleeves and getting dirty at every step of the way. This is the only way to really understand a problem, the people and work together towards a solution.
- Ownership: Once I get started I will own the problem and deliver the solution as if it were my own. This is simply my personality and I expect the same from those around me. Running a business is difficult enough as it is. My goal is to relieve you of some of that burden.
- Speed: Quite simply put a small object moving fast has more impact than a large object moving slow. Any small business owner understands this concept intimately. Whether its fixing something or implementing a new system I like to produce 70% of the work within a very short period of time. It will take the organization a long time to adjust to any change as it is and it is very important to manage the adoption process carefully which is why it is even more critical to do most of the work rapidly so it doesn't seem like the organization is in a constant state of change or flux.
- Communication & Training: This is where the meat of the solution is. I spend a lot of time preparing communication and training pieces in a variety of formats from one-on-one lunches to group facilitated meetings to daily or weekly status updates to white papers describing parts of the solution. No one method of communication works for everyone just as no single marketing effort hits every customer. Unless ample time and resources are budgeted for this phase of a solution it will be a failure.
What I Look For In A Team
My personal approach is only half the equation. Success comes from being part of a winning team that share similar outlooks and similar goals. I want to be part of a team that shares similar goals and approaches to work.
